This Belongs in the Same Category as Cigarettes.

And it’s probably sitting in your fridge right now. What the science says about processed meats—and why metabolic health matters more than ever.

This might surprise you… but it shouldn’t anymore.

Processed meats, like deli meats, hot dogs, bacon, and sausages, are officially classified in the same cancer risk category as cigarettes.

Let that sink in for a moment.

According to the World Health Organization and its cancer research arm, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, processed meats are classified as Group 1 carcinogens.

That doesn’t mean they cause cancer to the same degree as smoking, but it does mean the evidence linking them to cancer is clear and consistent.

So what’s the issue?

Processed meats are typically:
• Cured with nitrates and nitrites
• Highly processed and chemically preserved
• Linked to increased inflammation and insulin resistance
• Associated with higher colorectal cancer risk when consumed regularly

This isn’t about fear.
And it’s not about perfection.
It’s about awareness.

Most people eat processed meats thinking they’re making a “high-protein” or “convenient” choice, without realizing the long-term metabolic and inflammatory consequences.

The goal isn’t never eating them.
The goal is reducing exposure, choosing cleaner proteins, and understanding how everyday food choices quietly shape long-term health.

Real health isn’t built on labels or marketing claims.
It’s built on biology, education, and informed decisions.

If this made you pause, even for a second, that’s a good thing.

Because prevention always starts with awareness.
